Because of the large size of audio files, a traditional podcatcher will be a high capacity MP3 players (e.g. an iPod) or a desktop media player. To solve the audio file size problem, Mobiedge Newspaper v1.1 comes with a desktop helper application called "Mobiedge Newspaper Bridge". You can use Mobiedge Newspaper Bridge to download huge audio files via your PC Internet connection and convert them into AMR format. AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate) is an industrial standard of audio encoding which is broadly used in today"s telephone products. An audio file can be encoded into AMR format with much smaller size while keeping fairly good audio quality. For example, a 5.9Mb CBC Radio podcasting file "www_cbc_ca_quirks_media_2005-2006_mp3_qq-2005-11-05a_mp3.mp3" (64kbps mono MP3, 12 minutes and 53 seconds) can be converted into a 491Kb file in AMR, i.e. the size is reduced by more than 10 times. By using AMR converter we can make it viable for a mobile phone to support podcasting which used to require more than 100Mb of memory space.

Overview

To download news feeds using a PC Internet connection. You can use Mobiedge Newspaper Bridge, companion PC software, to do the job. Using this method you can load bulky contents, which are probably measured in megabytes, into your phone without paying for a wireless data service.

The Mobiedge Radio works in 2 modes:

Online mode: the reader downloads subscribed feeds and/or enclosed media files from web sites via wireless data services, e.g. GPRS, so that end users can get the latest content anytime, anywhere.
Offline mode: the reader downloads content via PC Internet connections with the help of a PC application named "Mobiedge Radio Bridge" (see the following image). The PC application also converts enclosed audio files into AMR format. Using this method end users can get bulky contents (say, more than 1MB) without paying for the wireless data service, thereby save the total cost.

Contacts Manager for Nokia 7710 can export/imports contacts from/to Nokia 7710 phones using a CSV or TXT file with delimiters. This application can also read (import) contacts data created by Contacts Manager for Series 60 or by Contacts Manager+ for SE P800/900/910 (UIQ) phones.

The advantage

Unlike similar programs, Contacts Manager is able to save (export) into textual file virtually all data from the contacts database of the phone.

Contacts database transfer between phones using synchronization with PIM (e.g., MS Outlook or Lotus Notes) might be incomplete (lossy) - especially in the case that contact cards in the communicator or smartphone contain more fields then contact cards in the PIM are able to accept. Export using Contacts Manager keeps also hidden items as well as hidden field properties.

Export

As a result of export, you will get delimited CSV/TXT file in Unicode with data ordered into "columns". Export supports also multi-fields (repeating fields) and fields with user-defined description, and conceded and hidden fields, hidden subtypes (properties) as well as special fields, are also handled properly. Result file can contain also group definitions and other supplement records. Parameters of the result (CSV/TXT) file can be defined in Settings - according to the user"s needs. You can also import contacts from Nokia Series 40 phone (conversion from NCC format needed). Import adds contacts into the contacts database. Recognized items are imported into proper fields, and for each unrecognized or unknown item a new "Note" field is created in the contact card

Ripping DVD movies

If you want to play DVD movies, the first step is to rip the DVD into an AVI file using a DVD ripper program.
The program does not have a DVD converter included. We recommend the use of the free XMPEG (http://www.xmpeg.net), step-by-step tutorial included, or if you wish to make it easier, in one step, try Makayama"s Mobile Media Maker.

Converting AVI files to a DVDPlayer-supported format
To convert an existing AVI file into the supported format, we recommend the use of a Lathe for Nokia, included in installation file.

After conversion, upload the file to the phone using Nokia PcSuite (comes with the phone, or download it at www.nokia.com), or copy it to the MMC using a card writer, then start DVDPlayer - it will show the new file in the list. The program needs about 2Mbyte free memory on the phone (not on the MMC).

You may need to download additional codecs for encoding the files: DivX (http://www.divx.com), or XviD codec (http://www.koepi.org)
